  1. I like how you worked with the idea of zooming in on the body to make it abstract-- I think it turned out really well!

  2. Ashley, I am in love with your top piece! Your lighting is marvelous, especially in the folds above the arm where you pushed the two-tones of darkness. The decisions you made about where to show contrast are wonderful because you give your piece a deep rich feeling, while still keeping the figure soft. I love it!

  3. THE HANDS. the top piece's hands are very well exicuted.sp? anyway. the forshortening in what would be the... right hand is amazing. it doesnt look like you have a stub finger, but just a finger coming forward. nicenice. &&&&the shadowing on the back and butt works well also, i really like the cold blue against the warm, soft look of the rest of the body. kind what allie's sayin. and like katie too.. i love how you took mcky b's advice in zooming in. the abstract is beautiful-- the only thing i would watch out for is the dark outlinging, iv noticed this in a couple of your pieces and i cant tell if it's your intention to add it but in the zoom in, it might be to hard of a line in the crease furthest to the left. WAY TO KICKASS ASHLEY. :)

  4. The lighting on the top piece is very nice. The lights and darks really create the shapes so that the dark outlining, like natalie said, isn't necessary. In particular, i like the highlight on the wrist. Good contrast and change in value.

Maybe I just need it explained to me or I am just weird, but I do not understand the bottom piece. It is good that you are not just doing the entire form again and again and taking risks and showing growth by trying to zoom in, but I don't see it. I see that it is supposed to be rolls of some part of the body (the stomach?) but it is not clear enough. The title helps a little, but I just don't understand it. But that's just me. Also, the hard outlines/creases are not blended in well enough.

  5. Ashley-- "Twist" is absolutely beautiful. You've really showcased your talent in this piece. It's compositionally very strong and tells much more of a story than your portraits. Nice work. "Roll" is very interesting. As the viewer, I want to know what/where this is. It has an element of mystery that will sit well with the rest of your concentration pieces. The only thing I would suggest is to blend the darks a bit more--they seem too tight and line-like for my liking. I wouldn't tweak the value of the skin tones, though, that looks accurate to me. Keep on making great things, nice job!
